Japan proxy shopping guide

Japan shipping calculator: turn a listing into a parcel budget

Estimate Japan shipping with packed weight and dimensions, compare postal benchmarks with actual courier quotes, and understand what the result excludes.

Published-source guide · illustrative examples clearly labelled

An item’s advertised weight rarely describes the parcel you will pay to send. Use the outer shipping box, padding and all included accessories. LandedCheck provides a published postal benchmark and a way to compare real route quotes; it does not retrieve every proxy’s negotiated courier price.

The four inputs that change your result

  • Destination: service availability and the rate zone depend on where the parcel is going.
  • Packed weight: include the box and protection, not just the product.
  • Outer dimensions: these affect eligibility and courier dimensional weight.
  • Contents: batteries, liquids and other restricted goods may rule out a route regardless of price.

Postal benchmark versus a courier quote

The calculator can use a supported Japan Post AIR PACKET or EMS benchmark when its eligibility checks pass. The official availability page must still be checked before shipment. An express carrier quote can use a different charging basis and a proxy-specific contract. A carrier name on a result is not an automatically obtained price from that carrier.

Worked example: a light but bulky parcel

Illustrative example — not a live quote

A box measuring 40 × 30 × 30 cm has 36,000 cm³ volume. With an illustrative divisor of 5,000, dimensional weight is 7.2 kg. If it physically weighs 2 kg, a courier applying that rule may bill by 7.2 kg, subject to its rounding. A postal service may use actual weight while imposing separate size limits. You cannot compare a 2 kg postal quote with a 2 kg courier table and assume the latter is correct.

Ask forWhy it matters
Service and delivery addressEconomy and express, or a remote address, can change the price
Final packed measurementsRepacking can move the box into a different bracket
Included feesFuel, handling, insurance or customs collection can be separate
Contents acceptedA cheap route is unusable if it will not accept the item

If measurements are unknown

Use the item-type estimate to decide whether the purchase is worth investigating, then try a larger package as a sensitivity check. For a multi-item haul, supply whole-parcel measurements rather than assuming one category estimate describes the combined box. If the calculator cannot price the shipment, obtain a quote; do not remove the shipping line from your budget.

How to read estimated savings

Compare against a local price for the same condition, accessories and warranty, including local delivery and applicable tax. LandedCheck can show estimated savings with ordinary inputs when the model supports the destination and item. Read the assumptions beneath the result: an estimate is not a confirmed bill. If duty or another required cost is unresolved, a partial comparison shows the remaining budget before those excluded charges, not final savings. An unavailable shipping route needs a real quote; missing cost is never proof of free delivery.

Try a starting scenario

Open an illustrative basket for this topic, then replace the price, destination and other inputs with your own. Press Calculate Cost to run it. Article arithmetic uses its stated assumptions; live reference rates and supported model assumptions can produce a different result.
