Neither service is always cheaper. Start with the exact marketplace and number of separately charged orders or distinct items, then compare protection, payment and shipping on equal terms. The smallest purchase fee is only one part of the decision. This is a comparison of published terms and illustrative budgets, not a hands-on service review.
Compare the published charging structure
| Cost or service | Buyee | ZenMarket |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase fee | ¥500 per order | ¥300–¥800 per distinct item; marketplace-dependent |
| Protection | Optional plans; read exclusions | Shipping insurance included within stated limits; detailed inspection is separate |
| Payment | Check the checkout currency and conversion | Deposit fee starts at 1%; method matters |
| International delivery | Use the actual parcel quote | Use the actual parcel quote |
Consult the linked fee pages for the definition of an order or item. Consolidating parcels later does not erase purchase fees already charged.
Example 1: one Mercari listing
Assume ¥10,000 goods, ¥700 domestic delivery and a ¥3,000 international quote on each route. Buyee with a ¥500 Standard plan gives ¥10,000 + ¥500 purchase fee + ¥500 plan + ¥700 + ¥3,000 = ¥14,700 before payment conversion and import charges. ZenMarket at an ¥800 Mercari fee gives ¥14,500 before funding; a simplified 1% charge on that amount adds ¥145, making ¥14,645 before import charges and any other conversion cost. The ¥55 difference is too small to justify ignoring coverage or a different shipping quote.
The deposit calculation is an arithmetic assumption, not a promise of the exact amount needed to fund an account. Payment methods and rounding can change the bill. Choosing Buyee Lite would also change both the cost and protection being compared.
Example 2: a three-listing purchase
For three separate Mercari listings totaling ¥12,000, the purchase fees alone are ¥1,500 at Buyee versus ¥2,400 at ZenMarket under these published structures. Adding three ¥500 Buyee plans changes its purchase-plus-plan amount to ¥3,000. Before comparing that with ZenMarket, check what each protection arrangement actually covers. A ¥900 headline-fee advantage can disappear when the selected services differ.
Which should you shortlist?
- For one low-value order, compare the checkout total and the protection you actually want.
- For several listings, count separately charged purchases before considering consolidation.
- For a fragile or valuable item, ask about packing and claim exclusions before choosing the lowest modeled total.
- For a bulky parcel, request equivalent packed dimensions and route quotes from the services you are considering.
Inspection is not a condition guarantee
Buyee’s plan exclusions matter for malfunctioning devices and authenticity. ZenMarket also distinguishes photographs from detailed inspection. A photograph of a camera does not establish shutter accuracy, lens condition or long-term reliability. If a purchase only makes sense with specialist testing, obtain explicit confirmation that the requested check can be performed before paying.
How to read estimated savings
Compare against a local price for the same condition, accessories and warranty, including local delivery and applicable tax. LandedCheck can show estimated savings with ordinary inputs when the model supports the destination and item. Read the assumptions beneath the result: an estimate is not a confirmed bill. If duty or another required cost is unresolved, a partial comparison shows the remaining budget before those excluded charges, not final savings. An unavailable shipping route needs a real quote; missing cost is never proof of free delivery.
